Christian Nicholas Ebony the subjects of this story
To say I am deeply sorry heartfelt and obligatory
Collateral damage when marriage failed I set sail as many wailed
19,000 kilometers of separated desolated devastated
I saw you in my mind’s eye as you cried and churned inside
And I cried too looking for good outcomes from the bomb crumbs
Christian Nicholas Ebony
No words could ever say “I’m sorry”
I never meant to do you wrong
You were all so very strong
The prime of your teens vulnerable by all means
You were conscious that mother and father were deep in strife
And could no longer keep it together to weather the weather
And out of the blue opportunity grew to work in the U – the US of A
Decision was made that’s how it played betrayed my own flesh and blood
I wish you could have all just come with me but it just wasn’t meant to be
Christian Nicholas Ebony
No words could ever say “I’m sorry”
I never meant to do you wrong
You were all so very strong
From bud to dud I served up a thud that changed many lives
Changed forever never to be what it was I served up a big faux pas
Into the abyss bliss was amiss you now had a different sphere
Nothing was really clear several years of tears and fears
I came back often to try and soften the mess I had made
And missed many milestones my enormous shame gargantuan blame
Christian Nicholas Ebony
No words could ever say “I’m sorry”
I never meant to do you wrong
You were all so very strong
And now dad was just a voice afar hoping to heal many a scar
To only limited effect with those relationships I wrecked
Trying to make sense of the cruelest offense
Observing and yearning my kids that were learning
To get on with things and all that life brings
And pick up the crumbs good adults become
Christian Nicholas Ebony
No words could ever say “I’m sorry”
I never meant to do you wrong
You were all so very strong
As you grew older and bolder freeholders
You set out to travel for fun and adventure
You saw new perspectives were life’s new detectives
You each found your way an entree a gateway to all that’s on offer
To refill your coffers from years of depletion
Completion of past a new path was cast
Christian Nicholas Ebony
No words could ever say “I’m sorry”
I never meant to do you wrong
You were all so very strong
Sixteen years later and double your years
We managed to outgrow that awful shit show
Adults you are and though still afar we softened the scars
You lean on each other you sister and brothers
Blood’s thicker than water my sons and my daughter
I’m proud of you I love you I am sorry for what I did to you.
Christian Nicholas Ebony
No words could ever say “I’m sorry”
I never meant to do you wrong
You were all so very strong
