I took a break from my writing, instead mostly reading. I have been itching to say something. I asked Chat GPT to tell me what Jesus would say if he was amongst us today. Here is my version: P.s.”Torpor:” a state of physical or mental inactivity; lethargy. “they veered between apathetic torpor and hysterical fanaticism”

If we awakened from our torpor
You would find us not in palaces,
But in the streets,
On bus stops and subway benches,
Beside the weary single mother
And the old man no one visits.

You would not find us where noise and power is concentrated,
But in the quiet of our neighbor’s need.
In places where compassion is planted,
And where we choose mercy
Even though it costs us comfort.

We search for miracles
Yet the only miracle to seek is love
We would forgive what the world considers unforgivable,
We would feed without counting,
And shelter without asking who deserves.
Instead of building walls, we would tear them down.
Instead of hoarding treasures, we would scatter them as seed.
Instead of worshipping success,
We would celebrate failure and trying your best
To lift the fallen stranger, the “unsuccessful”

We would realize that we have become deaf and blind
Instead we would listen and see—
The refugee’s cry
The immigrants lament
The addict’s despair,
The homeless’ anguish
The grind of the underprivileged
The hopes of the marginalized
And …..
The laughter of children
Who still trust in the morning to bring hope
Not death from a gun that should not exist

We are in love with and worship “I”
Yet we are  impermanent, dependent, and empty of a fixed essence
Other than compassion kindness and love
Love one another —
Not as an idea,
But as the breath you cannot live without.

For the answers are already here,
Waiting in our outstretched hands.
