I wept for the earth my tears fell, I want to share and I want to tell
Of mother earth that gave me birth a living breathing organism
Suffering from our human materialism
What will become of our earth?
What are we leaving our children and their children and their children to contend with?
We’ll be sleeping deep and long no idea of what’s going on
Oceans rivers waterways
Earth and soil the sun’s piercing rays
Weather climate catastrophes in plain sight for all to see
Fossil fuels and air pollution it is time for restitution
Business lobbyists government
Citizens charlatans all lament
We can have opposing views yet on something so crucial why would we choose?
To scoff and doubt and not even attempt
To do something not treat with contempt?
My wish is that you pause a while and attempt to reconcile
Our beliefs and actions and lifestyle
- Who we elect
- What we eat
- What we use and reuse
- What we say
- What we listen to
- What stories we tell
- What we stand for
- Fighting for justice and inequality
I will stand on the side of change take some action and not estrange
Myself from what little I can do. To speak up and ask of you
To care a little more like me approach this subject differently
Together we can make it happen leave a virtuous legacy
Reflecting my concerns and recent learning at the University of Edinburgh on Learning for a Sustainable Future, and, this moving 5 minute video by Jeremy Irons (do watch it)
