Self-Compassion it should be the fashion
We hurl the insults the empathy we ration
To ourselves we must really be kind
Stop the self-criticism floating in mind
We speak to ourselves in terms hard and mean
Not treating mistakes as purely routine
Engaging in dialogue that’s hardly uplifting
Finding our faults in almost everything
These tendencies usually stem from our childhood
Always told to do better – we could and we should
A lack of compassion we now find ourselves facing
Instead of supporting and loving embracing
And society too it hardly helps matters
A message of inadequacy it constantly batters
Resulting in seeing each other as rivals
We need to do better – our pointless survival
Let’s accept ourselves for who we truly are
Speak kindness not callousness like we’re a star
Accepting the humanity we share with each other
With our self-criticism – don’t even bother
Self-compassion is the ointment to smother
Apply liberally
