We live in a world of competition submission to the big commission
Winners and losers we create some we just humiliate
First and second and third place
Everything seems to be a race trying hard to score that ace
Everyone else we want to beat not content in the backseat
In school, college, work, community and sport
Pushing the boundaries to not come up short
Unnatural acts to win that prize
Underneath those prying eyes
Yet if enough of us succeed, are we now truly exceptional?
Average becomes denominational
A higher bar now to surpass to be considered real high-class
A deep down feeling of not good enough
A feeling we don’t have the stuff
Perhaps a better competition is a personal ambition
One where we have some real control
One in which we can all enroll
Instead against ourselves compete
That would be a worthy feat improve ourselves now that is sweet
And in the process we accrue
Not to a world of me or you
A world instead of me and you
