Patrick Joseph Meehan March 21 1959 – February 16 2018

We met in Australia long ago
You were gay and I was straight
We could argue toe to toe
We became the best of mates

Born same year just days apart
Brothers of a certain time
We were generous of heart
Many mountains we would climb

You a disciple of St Patrick
I instead of San José
Both completely psychiatric
Guilt injected on the way

A few years later I emigrated
To the mighty USA
Many things for me translated
Made sure I’m not led astray

East Hampton was Latin Central
With Armando and a tribe of guys
Cruising in your Continental
I was simply mesmerized

Raul was always on the prowl
At my door please let me in
I made sure to lock my door
Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin

And then you moved to Florida
We often visited Armando and you
You’d become the local czar
We fell in love with Florida too

We would not have – if not for you
Our beautiful waterfront paradise
Many obstacles you broke through
We relied on your advice

Your love began to really glow
After your marriage in DC
To your friend and love Armando
A joy to live so happily

We shared a lot of what we had
We did a lot of things together
We had no reasons to be sad
As neighbors friends whatever.

Suddenly in the blink of an eye
You left this earth before your time
We never got to say goodbye
You were still just in your prime.

You were such a true godsend
You left a hole you left us blue
I miss you so my dearest friend
As many others also do

To reunite once more I pray
That we again will chew the fat
With St Patrick and San José
Just the four of us the brats

R.I.P Patrick I love you.

  2. Tender, touching and what an amazing tribute.

You and Patrick will certainly wreak some havoc
    whenever that day eventually comes.
Until then, you and San José have much work to do
And many miles of cycling while in the Florida Sun!
